Barracudas Weekly 6/1

Barracuda Families,

Hope everyone had a great weekend and Fun Friday! Our first Family Movie Night was a big success and it’s been a FIN-tastic season! Hard to believe the season swam by so quickly. This week we have regular morning practices and then our last regular season meet at the Lake Hills Splashers.

LHS Swim Meet Saturday 6/6 - more info to follow but for now, please note that this is our only away meet of the season (other than Champs) and swimmers’ last chance to get a “splash” participation credit for Champs eligibility. Reminder: Champs meet has a 2 splash requirement (this means you must participate in at least two regular season meets to swim at Champs). This is also the last chance to get a valid time in an event for Champs. E.g. if your Barracuda really wants to swim breaststroke in Champs but so far has only gotten a DQ or NS, they need to successfully compete in breaststroke on Saturday morning and get a valid time in the event in order to sign up for it at Champs.

LHS Meet Location: 3106 Edgewater Drive, Austin, TX 78733

Meet Entry is open and closes at 12:00 noon sharp on Thursday 6/4. We are guests at this meet and will be submitting our entries to them on Thursday right after entries close. We will have very little flexibility to add anyone later. REGISTER YOUR SWIMMER NOW PLEASE so they don't miss out.

Parking will be a challenge! Please review the times below and give yourself plenty of cushion to arrive on time. Please be aware that street parking is not permitted on Edgewater Drive. LHS will have parking attendants to help guide throughout the neighborhood for parking. They will also have some parent volunteers with golf carts to help shuttle up and down the hill. It may be best to have a parent drop your swimmer(s) off at the pool and then find a parking spot.

Meet Timeline

  • Volunteers arrive per their area lead instruction
    • Setup Crew: 6:00am
    • AGP: 6:45am

This is an away meet and it is BY A LAKE. Please tell your swimmers they must stick with their age group in their assigned spot under the tent other than short trips to bathrooms/concessions, etc. Swimmers may NOT play in the lake, on the dock or in the sand volleyball court (clogs the pool).

End of Season Champs Meet!

The season finale is almost here!!! Austin Hills Swim League Champs meet is coming up on Saturday June 13th @ Round Rock ISD Natatorium!

Registration is open and will close on Wednesday, 6/11 at 12:00 noon. Again, this will be a firm deadline as all 5 teams in the league will be submitting entries to build the meet. Register your swimmer(s) NOW!

To be very clear on the Champs qualifications, both of the following must be met -

  1. Meet Participation: The swimmer must have participated (splashed) in at least two regular season swim meets. It does not matter how they swam—whether they were disqualified (DQ’d) or won their races—as long as they participated.Note: There are only TWO meets remaining. Any swimmer who has not yet participated in a regular dual/tri meet (no intrasquads) must attend both of the final two remaining meets to meet this requirement.
  2. Valid Time in Each Entered Event: The swimmer must have a valid time (no NT or DQ) in each individual event they plan to swim at Champs. A valid time only needs to have been achieved once during the season. We have run medal meets this way for years.
  3. You Must be in Good Standing. If you have not earned at least 2 volunteer points at this point in the season, please sign up for an available shift or email [email protected] if you need help getting points.

Kids will get MEDALS for this meet instead of ribbons (woo hoo!) and this meet is scored, so let’s show everyone Barracudas are No. 1!

ABOUT THOSE RELAYS: Relays score double points, so we will plan to build as many relays as we have eligible swimmers for. Unless your swimmer really is uncomfortable swimming up with older kids and you don’t think it would be a good experience, please don’t check the “no swim up relays” box so we have as many eligible swimmers available as possible. Remember that most relays will place, so your swimmer will likely get a medal for swimming up with older kids in a relay!

Please also note that this will be a longer meet than usual because all 5 teams are coming together. It will be a single session beginning at 10:00 am and ending around 3:00 pm, so if you’re not able to arrive on time or stay the whole day, please select “no early relays” or “no late relays” accordingly.

End of Season Party

More details to follow, but mark your calendar for our fun end of season party at the BCW Big Pool the evening of Wednesday, 6/17.

Cancellation/Scratches

If anything comes up before the meet and your swimmer is no longer available to swim, please please please, email [email protected] with the details. Once warm up starts and volunteers arrive, we will not be monitoring email though, so if you need to scratch after 7:00 am the morning of the meet, please also text Catherine Bedell at 512-922-5526.

Reminders and Random Info

  • Baby Pool Fountains are CLOSED During ALL Practices and Meets.
  • Swimmers should remain with their AGPs between races so they can be ready to go for each swim. If your swimmer is not there when his/her event is called and lined up, s/he may miss the event.
  • Chlorine does not kill lice and does not prevent the transmission of staph or other bacterial infections.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but just because school is out doesn’t mean we need to stop being vigilant about checking our kids heads for lice and their bodies for infections to avoid spreading them in the pool.
  • The wall phone by the entrance to the bathrooms IS operational and for emergency use only. It is not a toy! Please give your kids a quick history lesson on what a telephone is and how it works as we have had kids accidentally call 911 in the past (and it’s a pool so they responded in full force) and we have observed some kids using it recently, so wanted to send a reminder more broadly.
  • Bathrooms / pool accidents.  If your child has a potty accident in the pool or bathroom area, please notify a board member immediately so we can get cleaning staff to assist.
  • Individual concession stands / bake sales are not allowed in the pool area during swim meets. The Barracudas concession stand is one of our biggest team fundraisers for the season and we ask people to support the team by supporting our Barracudas concession stand during meets.

Just keep swimming. We'll see you at the pool.
