Swim Meets & Events

Mon Jun 26 2017

All Star Invitational
Westwood Country Club
Start: 4:30 PM

All Star Invitational for swimmers with qualifying times.

Note that this meet is asking for "availability" and not "attending". We get a single relay per age group. In many cases, we fill those spots with "relay only" swimmers as there are not enough swimmers with qualified times.  If you mark a swimmer as "available", we will consider them for relay entry.  You will be notified prior to the meet if your swimmer was selected.

IMPORTANT: By signing up your swimmer for an individual event, you are agreeing that you will be responsible for individual entry cost - $7.00 per event per swimmer.  The team will cover the relay costs.

Fri Jun 23 2017

BCW @ ACC (Medal Meet)
Austin Country Club
Start: 5:00 PM
Warm-up: 4:25 PM

Times will be confirmed with ACC by Monday.

Schedule: Warm-ups @ 4:25-4:50pm, Meet start @ 5:00pm (ALLOW FOR TRAFFIC)

Entries Due: Tuesday 6/20/2017 @ 5:00pm

Location: Austin Country Club (4408 Long Champ Dr, Austin, TX 78746)

Response REQUIRED: If you are unable to attend a meet, please mark your swimmer as not attending so we don't keep trying to contact you to verify your swim status for the meet.

Notes -

  • This meet requires a valid time to enter an event. The swimmer must have successfully completed the event during the regular season (non-intrasquad).  It will only allow you to select qualified events. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
  • The ACC pool is Short Course Meters (SCM).  The times you will see on the entry matrix and on the heat sheets will be converted times.  This is our first meet this season in a SCM pool, so the times you see will be a bit slower than an Short Course Yards (SCY) time that we are used to for this season.  A meter pool is about 6 ft longer than a yard pool.  Push hard to the end!

Arrival:

Plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to warmup (or earlier if required for your volunteer job). Direct your child to the the appropriate age group area to checkin, we will be in the grass between the parking lot and the tennis courts. It is nice and shady but a bit away from the pool. Let your child know that they should either be in their age group area, ready bench, or swimming. They should let the age group parent know if they need to use the restroom or get something from concessions. If they wonder off, they may miss their event. Age Group Parents cannot leave their group to hunt down a missing child, please ask your child to stay around.

Parking:

ACC will provide parking details. Look for more information early in the week.

What to bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Wear team suit, t-shirt and cap
  • Goggles
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Activities for in between races (books, games, etc.)
  • Healthy snacks
  • Money for concessions
  • Blanket/Extra Towel, if desired
  • Please do not bring glass containers.

Pre Meet Preparation:

Review the heat sheet and let your child know what events that are signed up to swim. Once the heat sheet is published (typically the day before the meet), the individual events will not change so you may write them on your child's arm/leg if you have time. This will save time for the age group parents. Older kids should start to take responsibility for their events, let them review the heat sheet. Relays may change up until event time if someone is missing, so best to wait until the meet for relays.

Please bring a copy of the heat sheet if you will need it. Ready bench, stroke judge, and Age Group parents will be provided a copy of the heatsheet at the meet.

Concessions:

See meet info from host team for away meet concession info. They will have a food counter and likely a buffet.

Scratches / Missed Events:

There is no penalty if your child misses an individual event, but please let us know as soon as possible. If they are signed up for a relay, it is important that you let us know so that we may attempt to find a substitute. Please email [email protected] for meet absences. If there is a chance your swimmer may not make the meet, please do not signup for relays. Individual events are OK.

At the meet, if they do accidentally miss their event, please head to the computer table as quickly as possible and we will attempt to accommodate if able.

Deck Entries (Late Entries):

Deck entries will be accepted after the heat sheet is published up until 30 minutes before the meet start. Deck entries on the morning of the meet are discouraged, but will be attempted if the computer desk has time. Deck entries must meet entry limitations and will only be placed in empty lanes. No new heats will be created. If your plans change and you can make the meet, please email [email protected] and we will see if there is a spot.

Entry Limits:

  • Swimmers 10&under may swim in up to 3 individual events and up to 2 relays. 3 events are NOT required if your child is not comfortable with the event. Talk to your coach to decide if they are ready.
  • Swimmers 11&over may swim in up to 5 individual events and up to 2 relays.

Relays:

  • Relays are computer generated, based on swimmer ability with the coaches double checking that the kids can swim the strokes the computer selects. You will have an opportunity to declare your childs availability for relays on the meet signup page. Generally the top 4 swimmers in an age group will swim on the A relay, the next group on the B relay, we will sometimes try to mix the C relay to give more kids a chance at relays. RELAY SPOTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED UNTIL THE EVENT AT THE MEET. LAST MINITE CANCELLATIONS/ILLNESS/ETC MAY HAVE LARGE IMPACT ON RELAYS.

Qualifying Times:

  • The Medal Meet (medals instead of ribbons!) requires a valid entry time from this season to swim an event. Make sure your child plans ahead to swim in this meet!

Timeline:

The timeline will be published the day before the meet. Timelines are ESTIMATES and not guaranteed. Some meets run well and some meets do not, please stay flexible! We expect most meets will will just under 4 hours. Actual time will depend on the number of swimmers from each team.

Results:

Results will be posed by the restrooms on the pool deck as events complete. They will be made available online at the completion of the entire meet.

Meet Mobile:

Meet heat sheet information is available in meet mobile (iPhone and Android) for free. Meet results will be available as possible, but requires a monthly fee. The team does not receive any money from Meet Mobile, results are made available as a convenience. Meet mobile results are not to be considered final. NOTE: This is our last regular meet. Next week will be the Medal meet. A swimmer MUST have a valid time from a successful swim in an event to swim in the medal meet. I don't want anyone surprised when signing up for the medal meet. I also like to point out, a valid time doesn't have to win the race. Getting to the other side of the pool with a legal swim is job #1 :)

All Star Individual Events - kids may still qualify at the Medal meet for All star individual events. We are allowed to add swimmers that newly qualify.

All Star Invitational Relays - We will be basing our relay lists on times after this meet. We realize folks have to plan for a Monday late afternoon meet, so we will attempt to create the fastest relays based on best times up until this meet.  We may reorder relays after the medal meet, but will keep the invites in place (will adjust for cancellations). swim fast now :)

Arrival:

Plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to warmup (or earlier if required for your volunteer job). Direct your child to the the appropriate age group area to checkin, they are located around the pool deck under the shade structure. Let your child know that they should either be in their age group area, ready bench, or swimming. They should let the age group parent know if they need to use the restroom or get something from concessions. If they wonder off, they may miss their event.
